What are the benefits of using Pro Clima products in your home?

To get started, let’s talk about what Pro Clima products are - and why the team here at M A Building love working with them on high performance and passive homes.

Pro Clima is a New Zealand business that has created a range of building systems that achieve airtightness and weather-tightness in a home. These systems create energy efficient, low allergen emitting, comfortable, healthy homes, which as you all know, we are all about too!

One of the main reasons why we focus on achieving the airtightness and weathertightness in a home is, of course, to minimise any moisture damage. Moisture in a home can lead to a long list of unwanted issues like mould, condensation, cold draughts and leaky homes.

The Pro Clima products fall into these two main categories:

  • Weathertightness

  • Airtightness

Achieving weathertightness enables a home to withstand natural weather exposure. Pro Clima have created a range of roofing and building weather-resistant barriers, that look like paper to the untrained eye, but boast incredible intelligence to those in the know. These papers have been created to provide ultimate protection to the home from wind, driving rain and other external sources of water, whilst allowing any internal moisture to escape through the vapour permeable, non-porous TEEE layer. These are applied to the roof and the walls prior to cladding.

Achieving airtightness enables a home to minimise the uncontrolled movement of air through the walls, roof, floor and joinery. Pro Clima have created a range of internal air barriers, that once again, just look like paper to the untrained eye, but in reality these papers are worth their weight in insulation gold. They have been created to maximise the performance of the insulation you have chosen for your home, minimising any air leaks around it, which in turn reduces the demand on your home’s heating. These papers also restrict internal moisture entering the building envelope and provides optimal protection against structural damage and mould, even in the event of unexpected moisture intrusion. These are applied to the internal walls and ceilings just after insulation goes in.

Here at M A Building, we love working with the Pro Clima products and have recently installed these in a passive home here in Wanaka. Wondering if these products would give benefits to your home? Send us a message now to see if they are the right fit for you.
